Valtrex is an antiviral used in patients with normal immune systems to treat herpes zoster infections (shingles). Valtrex is also used to treat or suppress genital herpes in patients with normal immune systems. Using Valtrex in patients with genital herpes may reduce the risk of spreading the condition through heterosexual contact. Valtrex may also be used for cold sores (herpes simplex). Valtrex may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.
